It's been 7 weeks with Tootsie, who we have renamed to Darcy.

She's settling in nicely and slowly opening up to us.

Darcy is a quick learner. She's already recognizing her name and would come to us in the house. We're working on her recall when we're out, hoping one day she can enjoy some off leash running.

However, we're taking it very slowly, as we discovered she has a strong prey drive for bunnies and squirrels. Despite her excitement, she's doing very well with her leash work. Darcy is great at the dog park with wonderful manners; she's gentle and patient with all types of dogs. In the last 2 weeks, she's also mastered two commands "sit" and "paw". I've attached a video of her giving her paw.

Darcy is also getting along well with our dog Dyson, an 8ish year old miniature American Eskimo. Their relationship has shown growth both ways, Dyson is learning to approach larger dogs because of his trust in Darcy. Meanwhile Darcy often follows Dyson's lead when she's hesitant to try new things. For example, trying new treats or getting into the car.

My wife and I both work from home, so everyday after our morning walk and after breakfast, they fall into the routine of rotating nap time between my office and my wife's office. Then everyday, at around 5PM, we'd all go for our afternoon walk. She adapted to our schedule and has absolutely no issue with potty training. We're so grateful to report that there have been no accidents in the house at all. Yesterday was her first grooming visit and she passed with flying colours. The groomer said she was calm, gentle and behaved wonderfully.

Overall, we couldn't be happier with Darcy joining our family. In the short span of time, we've grown attached to each other and already couldn't imagine what it would be like without her. She's also shown us affection with kisses. She's also learned to "paw" and nudge us for pets and attention (we're pretty sure she picked that up from Dyson). We're confident that in time, she'll open up more and show us more of her personality. 

나나와 함께한 지 7주가 되었어요. 굉장히 적응을 잘하고 있고 저희한테도 서서히 마음을 열고 있어요.

나나는 뭐든 빨리 배워요. 새 이름인 달시도 벌써 알아듣고 이름을 부르면 다가와요. 언젠가 오프리쉬를 해주고 싶은 마음에 밖에서 리콜 연습도 하고 있어요. 하지만 나나가 토끼와 다람쥐를 아주 열심히 쫓아다니는 걸 봤기 때문에 아주 천천히 시도할 생각이에요. 그래도 줄을 많이 당기지는 않아요. 반려견 놀이터에서도 아주 매너가 좋아요. 어떤 개친구를 만나도 부드럽게 참을성 있게 대해요. 지난 주간에는 '앉아'와 '손' 두 가지를 마스터했어요.

나나는 다이슨(함께 키우는 반려견)과도 사이가 좋아요. 다이슨은 8살쯤 된 미니어처 아메리칸 에스키모예요. 둘의 관계는 서로에게 좋은 영향을 미치는 관계에요. 다이스은 나나를 믿음으로써 큰개들한테 다가가는 법을 배우고 있어요. 나나는 새로운 걸 시도할 때 망설이다가도 다이슨이 하면 따라하곤 해요. 새로운 간식을 먹거나 차에 올라타거나 할 때 그래요.

아내와 저는 둘 다 재택근무 중이라서 매일 아침 산책을 하고 아침밥을 먹으면 두 녀석은 제 사무실과 아내 사무실을 왔다갔다 하며 낮잠을 즐겨요. 그리고 5시쯤 되면 모두 함께 오후 산책을 나가요. 나나는 일과에 적응했고 집에서 실수하는 일도 없어요. 어제는 처음으로 미용을 해주러 갔는데 거기서도 너무 잘했어요. 미용사가 나나가 매우 얌전했다고 칭찬을 했어요.

한마디로 나나가 저희 가족이 되어서 너무나도 행복하답니다. 짧은 기간이었지만 많이 친해졌구요. 나나가 없는 삶은 벌써 상상도 되지 않아요. 나나는 뽀뽀로 애정표현을 해주고요. '손'을 배우더니 만져달라고 쿡쿡 찔러요. (다이슨한테서 배운 것 같아요.) 시간이 좀 더 지나면 나나가 좀 더 마음을 열고 본연의 성격을 좀 더 보여줄 거라고 믿고 있답니다.
